What Brings You Life

Just a passion project? Or a professional career? This straddle is something I’ve been wobbling back and forth over for years now. When do we accept our heart’s desire as simply a hobby... or a grassroots professional pursuit requiring blood, sweat and tears? Well, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s both.

Sacred gatherings of all kinds make my heart beat a little faster. I’m awakened. And that moment, with tears streaming down my cheeks as I sat in my therapists office, describing how doing this glued my mosaic soul together, I knew this was not just an extracurricular activity. It was almost, a calling. In my experience there has been a lot of sacrifice (I moved to a different state leaving family + friends), there’s been some definite sweat action, and yes, blood and tears, too.

Now not all reactions are this strong. It can be a nudge or an inkling or a “random” idea. Let it carry you and mold you and see where it takes you. Maybe you don’t need to become a full time ceramicist but you take a class. Or you paint with watercolor and share your talent as a gift to friends. Or you make home videos and sing your heart out just because you’re good at it. Of course, it would be lovely if it paid for your rent and a two-week vacation, but what’s more lovely is experiencing, creating, exploring what brings you life.
