The Privilege to Host

My favorite part about hosting dinners, around the country and world, is having the privilege of meeting the most unbelievably amazing humans out there. Sitting around an old barn door turned into a dinner table, or gathering close around a bonfire afterward, cheersing with wine or whiskey or water to the stories of the soul. These are the moments I will cherish for the rest of my life. With complete strangers weaving ourselves into a sisterhood, connecting on so many heart levels.

It’s funny - people have asked me when it was I started to love cooking or slow dining and what kind of healthy eating I lean towards and what foodie inspired me... and first I was so confused at first! Huh? Then it hit me. Obviously, I host dinner parties, and what’s the main focus? Eating! For me, the reason why I started wasn’t for the food but for the friendship. The connection. Conversation. Dinner makes people sit down. And I want people to sit down with me. Which turned into a love for farmers market finds and garden-to-table dishes!

But what I remember at the end of the evening, wasn’t the salad dressing or seasonings (though they are memorable!) but the people that showed up. Not really knowing what they were getting themselves into. But driving near and far for an experience. That, my friends, is what excites me.
